Robotic Conditioning Through a Joke

From inspirational lessons of life quotes

“Be around people who can keep your energy and inspiration high. While you can make progress alone, it’s so much easier when you have support.”

The Robotic Conditioning Began

When I read this quote, it reminded me of a joke that ran in my family about me. The story was that almost the first words that I learned to say were: I self, meaning - I can do it by myself, I don’t need your help.

Now this is very cute and even wonderful in a small child. We all want our children to be independent and capable young people and adults.

The problem was that I took it too much to heart. I have always wanted to do things by myself to such an extent that I was not a team player. Don’t take me wrong. I know how to work with people, but always there has to be that way out. Don’t strangle me. I need to be able to show how capable I am of doing it alone.

Until I understood this about myself there were many a time when I would say: Why must I do it all alone? Why am I not part of the crowd? This was especially true as a teenager (when we anyway feel we are different from everybody else, and long more than anything else to belong and to conform).

Once I understood this, I was able to accept it and change and become a team player, when I decided that was the right thing. I am still very independent, but it’s out of choice, not robotic conditioning.

Your turn. Tell me how this affected your life. Leave me a comment.

Keep Rolling, Keep Moving

I do not think there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It  overcomes almost everything, even nature.
John D. Rockefeller

If there is one reason why people don’t reach their goal it is giving up too soon. This is one element of goal setting that most mentors leave out - perseverance, never giving up.

Our world has become a world of instant, ready made, and nano seconds. It is a world where it once was a challenge to travel around the globe in 80 days, now you can do it in 24 hours or so.

We have become creatures of the here and now. When we set our minds on reaching goals, too many think read more »

Gratitude Is Attitude

Choose an attitude of gratitude and your life will be rich. Choose an attitude of gratitude when setting goals. Choose an attitude of gratitude when reaching your goals.

All religions, all cultures teach gratitude. Why do we have to be taught? It should be obvious to be grateful.

What is there to be grateful for, when my life stinks? you may say.

Well, maybe your life stinks because you are not grateful for what you do have. And believe me, if you are able to read this you truly have a lot to be grateful for:

The Tree and The Reed - Flexibility and Stretching Exercises

Posted in Goals - Set and Achieve on May 20th, 2009 by Birte – 2 Comments

Flexibility

Flexibility exercises and stretching exercises are normally associated with physical exercise. But the same should be applied when creating and implementing goal setting.

But flexibility, stretching and bending is extremely useful also for the purpose of reaching goals. It can only be compared to the old story of the tree and the reed:

Who survives the tempest - the tree or the reed?
Who survivies the flood - the tree or the reed?

In any flexibility exercise you have to know when to be strong and when to bend. But always bear in mind that the flexibility is on the path, not the final goal. The focus must always stay on the final goal, those wants and desires the whole process began with.

My personal saying on flexibility: Blessed are the flexible, for they shall thrive.

Personalities of Achievement

Posted in Self Awareness and Self Help on May 13th, 2009 by Birte – 4 Comments

I am proud to say that many people have influenced my life. Obviously the people close to me, parents, siblings, friends have influenced my life. I have learned much from them, both what is good for me to do, and also what I should not do, think, feel, and all that jazz.

There are many more who have had a profound influence on me, and sometimes even people who I have never met, and who don’t even know of my existence. Do you know what I am talking about?

I am talking about people that I have and even now am trying to emulate, or learn from as much as possible. People who I made into my mentors. People who have been my coaches. But more than anything else, people who have achieved what they set out to achieve, and because of that I, and many others, follow them. Some are dead long ago, and some are still very much alive and kicking. read more »
