Robotic Conditioning Through a Joke

From inspirational lessons of life quotes

“Be around people who can keep your energy and inspiration high. While you can make progress alone, it’s so much easier when you have support.”

The Robotic Conditioning Began

When I read this quote, it reminded me of a joke that ran in my family about me. The story was that almost the first words that I learned to say were: I self, meaning - I can do it by myself, I don’t need your help.

Now this is very cute and even wonderful in a small child. We all want our children to be independent and capable young people and adults.

The problem was that I took it too much to heart. I have always wanted to do things by myself to such an extent that I was not a team player. Don’t take me wrong. I know how to work with people, but always there has to be that way out. Don’t strangle me. I need to be able to show how capable I am of doing it alone.

Until I understood this about myself there were many a time when I would say: Why must I do it all alone? Why am I not part of the crowd? This was especially true as a teenager (when we anyway feel we are different from everybody else, and long more than anything else to belong and to conform).

Once I understood this, I was able to accept it and change and become a team player, when I decided that was the right thing. I am still very independent, but it’s out of choice, not robotic conditioning.

Your turn. Tell me how this affected your life. Leave me a comment.
