Robotic Conditioning Through a Joke

From inspirational lessons of life quotes

“Be around people who can keep your energy and inspiration high. While you can make progress alone, it’s so much easier when you have support.”

The Robotic Conditioning Began

When I read this quote, it reminded me of a joke that ran in my family about me. The story was that almost the first words that I learned to say were: I self, meaning - I can do it by myself, I don’t need your help.

Now this is very cute and even wonderful in a small child. We all want our children to be independent and capable young people and adults.

The problem was that I took it too much to heart. I have always wanted to do things by myself to such an extent that I was not a team player. Don’t take me wrong. I know how to work with people, but always there has to be that way out. Don’t strangle me. I need to be able to show how capable I am of doing it alone.

Until I understood this about myself there were many a time when I would say: Why must I do it all alone? Why am I not part of the crowd? This was especially true as a teenager (when we anyway feel we are different from everybody else, and long more than anything else to belong and to conform).

Once I understood this, I was able to accept it and change and become a team player, when I decided that was the right thing. I am still very independent, but it’s out of choice, not robotic conditioning.

Your turn. Tell me how this affected your life. Leave me a comment.

Gratitude Is Attitude

Choose an attitude of gratitude and your life will be rich. Choose an attitude of gratitude when setting goals. Choose an attitude of gratitude when reaching your goals.

All religions, all cultures teach gratitude. Why do we have to be taught? It should be obvious to be grateful.

What is there to be grateful for, when my life stinks? you may say.

Well, maybe your life stinks because you are not grateful for what you do have. And believe me, if you are able to read this you truly have a lot to be grateful for:

Personalities of Achievement

I am proud to say that many people have influenced my life. Obviously the people close to me, parents, siblings, friends have influenced my life. I have learned much from them, both what is good for me to do, and also what I should not do, think, feel, and all that jazz.

There are many more who have had a profound influence on me, and sometimes even people who I have never met, and who don’t even know of my existence. Do you know what I am talking about?

I am talking about people that I have and even now am trying to emulate, or learn from as much as possible. People who I made into my mentors. People who have been my coaches. But more than anything else, people who have achieved what they set out to achieve, and because of that I, and many others, follow them. Some are dead long ago, and some are still very much alive and kicking. read more »

Comfort Zone

Posted in Self Awareness and Self Help on May 7th, 2009 by Birte – 3 Comments

To really move forward it is worthwhile understanding where we are, and where we want to go. It is equally important to understand the path and the journey.

The journey will take us into areas where we feel uncomfortable. The more uncomfortable we feel, the greater the potential growth. The more we grow, the faster we can get to where we want to be, what we want to do, and what we want to have.

The more we move out of the comfort zone, the more we do. The more we do, the more we become, and through that the more we can have. There are no shortcuts in this. It’s so much better to play all out. This is the formula - to do, to be, to have.

Here is a little explanation on the comfort zone, how to move out of it, and the advantages and the rewards for doing so.

Some time ago I wrote an article about the comfort zone. Check it out HERE

Is Procrastination an Act of the Subconscious

Posted in Self Awareness and Self Help on April 23rd, 2009 by Birte – Be the first to comment

Recently I read a post on my friend Francesca K’s blog, Grow Abundant Life, on how we put things off - procrastinate, and the underlying reasons for doing so. Francesca says that there are emotions coming out of our subconscious that cause us to postpone to another time or day. Emotions are attached to beliefs and when we procrastinate, we are affected by our limiting beliefs. She goes on to defining steps to take to overcome this procrastination.

I agree with Francesca on a number of counts

*  emotions are attached to beliefs, limiting or not limiting
*  these beliefs lie in our subconscious

I disagree that this is the only reason we postpone. read more »
